Affinity Lab, an entrepreneurial start-up space in Adams Morgan, will award a $3,000 scholarship for the best sustainable business idea submitted during its Entrepreneurial Challenge. Applications are now available and are due by 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2006.
The scholarship will go to the entrepreneur who best demonstrates an idea that incorporates the key elements of sustainable business - a focus on financial, environmental and societal bottom lines.
Affinity Lab was founded on the belief that there was a better way to do business than the existing corporate model. There is more to success than economic gain. The environmental and social impact of business is equally important to the evaluation of business success.
The scholarship award will include:
* 30 hours per month of use of a desk at Affinity Lab for six months ($1,500 value)
* 20 hours of individual business plan and business operations counsel and guidance by Affinity Lab staff and successful entrepreneurs ($1,500+ value)
* Networking opportunities within Affinity Lab member networks
* Notification and support in the application for various national and local business plan competitions
The applications will be judged by a committee of successful entrepreneurs, business professionals and Affinity Lab staff. We will announce the scholarship recipient at our holiday party on Friday, December 15.
NOTE: This is not a business plan competition. This competition is intended to support entrepreneurial ideas in the pre-business plan phase.
